The megalithic temples of Malta

The megalithic temples of Malta, which since 1980 are included in the list of protected cultural objects of UNESCO world heritage sites, are a fractured group of seven prehistoric sanctuaries, built with the help of huge stone boulders on the Islands of Malta and Gozo. It’s called “Oculus”, in antiquity it was a symbol of the all-seeing eye. Some researchers suggest that Oculus was designed so that the solar rays entering inside the Pantheon, lit up in a specific order one or the other statue. The statue, of course, depicted the ancient gods – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and others.

The hole was eventually covered with many legends. One of them says that during the construction of the Temple of the Gods the dome of the whole story. In a ready made building was held the first ceremony. And while it is holding the evil spirits could not stand it, began to rush and broke up, breaking a hole in the top of the dome.
