Ancient underground structures

The sanctuary, close to Mayak, which was excavated in the Northern Caucasus, in early medieval Bulgaria. All of them are built on the principle of “square in square”, that is, inside a large rectangular or square structures there is less, if a rectangular square shape, inside of which a fire was burning. This is one of the characteristic traditions of the Turkic religious buildings where worship of fire, sun, light has occupied an important place.

In 1988 in the study of Vlasov Second burial ground of the bronze age and early iron age, situated 2 miles North of the village of Vlasivka of Gribanovsky area of the Voronezh region (excavations by A. T. Sinica and D. V. Berezutsky) revealed very interesting and totally unique building – underground labyrinth, construction area of about 254 square meters (the scheme ). Continue reading

The architecture of the Temple of the gods

What attracts tourists is the Temple of the Gods? Aside from the fact that it exists almost two thousand years, the architecture itself draws the eye. The Pantheon looks pretty mysterious because of the lack of Windows. The only window through which the light gets into the room, is a huge hole in the dome. It’s called “Oculus”, in antiquity it was a symbol of the all-seeing eye. Some researchers suggest that Oculus was designed so that the solar rays entering inside the Pantheon, lit up in a specific order one or the other statue. The statue, of course, depicted the ancient gods – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and others.

The hole was eventually covered with many legends. One of them says that during the construction of the Temple of the Gods the dome of the whole story. In a ready made building was held the first ceremony. And while it is holding the evil spirits could not stand it, began to rush and broke up, breaking a hole in the top of the dome.
