Among other things to history, the Maltese archipelago is still world famous for the fact that the oldest man-made structures on Earth are located in these places. This is the megalithic temples. The man, who had never encountered such prehistoric monuments, often raises a number of questions: what kind of temples such as their, where, for what purpose were erected? Let’s start from the very beginning that there is a megalith in General?
In simple terms, is any religious building, built of huge semi-finished or rough boulders, among which are the dolmens (funerary box, covered with a massive flat slab), and menhirs (separately from each other standing stones) and cromlechs (circular fence).
Here are cromlechs megaliths. The best known among the cromlechs are considered to be in the world of Carnac (France) and Stonehenge (England) is, but the Maltese buildings are older, they also differ in “accuracy” — on the territory, comparable to a small European city located more than twenty temples. The idea of a unified architectural plan, which built all the Gothic churches, raised for the first time, it seems, by Victor Hugo in “Notre Dame de Paris”, right, not demanded from its author’s great analytical depth. This idea lies on the surface, obvious to anyone who visited a number of iconic buildings of Gothic architecture. Nevertheless, the impression on “all ye who enter here incoming” all of them are different, and some do not produce any. All of the people, the skeletons of which are also virtually indistinguishable from each other.
On what basis is the Prague St. Vitus Cathedral is considered one of the greatest Gothic churches in the world? For its size it will not, perhaps, in the list of the first fifty of them. Its interior decoration and especially the stained glass Windows really make a strong impression, but also their unique, after all, difficult to call. In particular, the stained glass chapel of Saint-Chapelle in Paris, at least, not worse. Then what? This question must, apparently, to meet the professionals – architects or art historians, the majority of the “uninitiated” so, the only conclusion ultra-high concentration in this structure, the basic concept of Gothic architecture: “awesome greatness”. The main post office on Maidan Nezalezhnosti . Before the revolution, on the site of the present Post office number 1 lived the bourgeois Dyakonov. Richard’s Castle . This is the house number 15 on Andrew descent. The castle was built in the early XX century. The owner of a site, the contractor Orlov, died in few years after construction.
